mg/g vs mg per Pouch: How to Read Nicotine Strength

mg/g vs mg per Pouch: How to Read Nicotine Strength

Cans of nicotine pouches show strength in two ways: milligrams of nicotine per gram (mg/g) and milligrams per pouch. The two numbers answer different questions, and mixing them up is the most common reason two cans that look alike on paper turn out quite different.

What does mg/g mean?

mg/g is the nicotine content per gram of pouch. It tells you how concentrated the pouch is, whatever its size. We rate every can on this number: Light up to 10 mg/g, Medium 10 to 20, Strong 20 to 30, X-Strong 30 to 50 and Ultra Strong 50 to 100. A value exactly on a boundary goes in the lower band.

What does mg per pouch mean?

mg per pouch is the amount of nicotine in one pouch. It depends on two things: the mg/g figure and how much the pouch weighs. Two pouches with the same mg/g hold different amounts of nicotine if one of them is bigger.

How do you convert mg/g to mg per pouch?

Multiply the mg/g figure by the pouch weight in grams. A Cuba Black pouch weighs 0.65 g, so 66 mg/g × 0.65 g comes to about 43 mg per pouch. A Cuba Ninja pouch weighs 0.52 g, so its 30 mg/g gives 15.6 mg per pouch.

To go the other way, divide mg per pouch by the pouch weight: 10.4 mg ÷ 0.65 g = 16 mg/g, which is Cuba White.

Every Cuba line in one table

Line mg/g Pouch weight mg per pouch Our band
Cuba Low 6.5 0.65 g 4 Light
Cuba White 16 0.65 g 10.4 Medium
Cuba Ninja 30 0.52 g 15.6 Strong
Cuba Ice 46 0.65 g 30 X-Strong
Cuba Black 66 0.65 g 43 Ultra Strong
Cuba Coca Leaf 77 0.65 g 50 Ultra Strong

Per-pouch figures are rounded. Cuba Mega cans hold 300 pouches at either White strength (16 mg/g) or Black strength (66 mg/g).

Which number should you compare?

Use mg per pouch to compare what you actually put under your lip, and mg/g to compare how concentrated two products are. When pouch sizes differ, as with Cuba Ninja against the other Cuba lines, the two numbers tell different stories: Ninja is almost twice as concentrated as Cuba White, yet a Ninja pouch holds only 50% more nicotine than a White pouch.

The strength guide on our homepage puts every Cuba line on the same scale, and each product page lists both numbers next to the pouch count.
